International Baccalaureate (IB) Program
International Baccalaureate seeks to provide students with a rigorous, holistic educational experience that is recognized the world over as the leading university preparation program available to high school students. All IB programs emphasize developing the academic skills of all students to ensure college and career readiness. As an IB world school, Andrew Hill adheres to IB’s mission, which “aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”
As an IB World School, AHHS staff employs specific approaches to teaching that helps students develop the academic skills they need for college and career success. Fostering these skills, known as approaches to learning in the world of IB, are part of Andrew Hill’s single plan for student achievement and WASC goals. They are:
- Communication
- Thinking
- Social
- Research
- Self-management
Andrew P. Hill High School is one of three IB public high schools, and one of the five IB high schools, serving Santa Clara County. Our school is also one of two in the county to offer all three of the IB 9-12 programs. The middle years program serves all of our students in the 9th and 10th grades. At the 11th grade students can choose to enter either the career program or the IB diploma program.
At the bottom of this page you’ll also find specific policies that guide the implementation of all three of our IB programs. These policies include academic integrity, assessment, inclusion and access, and our language policy.
Students seeking to join the IB programs at AHHS from outside our attendance boundaries can contact the school during business hours for more information about the enrollment process.
